R.I.P Aberdeen Shikhoyi

The Kenya Rugby Union confirms the passing away of Abedeen Shikhoyi, captain of the Kenya Women’s National Team at the Nairobi Hospital on Saturday 28 April 2012, where she had been admitted following an injury sustained during the first leg of the Women’s Elgon Cup match against Uganda in Kampala on Saturday 21 April 2012.

The Kenya Rugby Union, and the entire rugby fraternity is thankful for the service, dedication and leadership Abedeen offered to the game of rugby and is saddened by her passing.

We also pay tribute to the Uganda Rugby Union and the medical teams in Uganda and Kenya who ensured that Abedeen received the best medical treatment possible.

Her body has been moved to the Umash Funeral Home as Kenya Rugby Union board members and her family plan to meet on Monday to begin preparations for her funeral.

A more comprehensive statement will be issued in due course.
