The Kenya Rugby Union is pleased to announce that it has concluded an agreement with the UK based rugby apparel company Gilbert, to partner with the Union to supply the Kenya National Rugby Sides Kit and Merchandise.

The upcoming IRB legs in Hong Kong, Japan, Glasgow and London will see the beginning of this partnership as Gilbert will unveil its kit for the Kenya National Sevens side which will include playing kit and off pitch wear.

Leading local cement manufacturer Bamburi Cement Limited has today unveiled its sponsorship for the 2012 Bamburi Rugby Super Series valued at Ksh 12 million. The cheque was presented to the Kenya Rugby Union chairman Mwangi Muthee by Bamburi Cement Limited’s Managing Director Hussein Mansi.

Speaking at the launch, KRU Chair Mwangi Muthee said that the union appreciates the continued support received from Bamburi Cement. “Kenya Rugby Union recognizes the support that Bamburi has accorded this tournament. The KRU upholds the integrity of the game. Transparency and integrity are not negotiable and we will be accountable to both Bamburi Cement and the entire rugby fraternity, ensuring that this sponsorship is well utilized.”

The Bamburi Rugby Super Series is a very important component in the development of fifteens rugby in Kenya. It is no secret that the tournament has played a big role in the emergence of the Kenyan national team as African champions in the longer version of the game.”

Bamburi Rugby Super Series Chairman Aggrey Chabeda also thanked the sponsors, while informing  the audience of the tournament dates also unveiled the tournament format, saying, “BRSS 2012 is scheduled to run over five consecutive weekends starting 5th May 2012 to 2nd June, 2012.  It will be played in 5 different venues i.e. Nairobi RFUEA grounds, Nakuru Athletics club, Kampala RUFC grounds / Kyadondo, Mumias Sports Complex and Mombasa Sports Club. The teams will be divided into two pools of four.  Each team will play three matches against the other teams in their respective pools on a home-or-away basis over the first three matchdays.  The winner of Pool 1 plays the runner-up of the Pool 2 and vice-versa in the semi-finals played in Weekend 4. The 3rd and fourth placed teams are eliminated and take no further part in the tournament.”
